AFRO CARIBBEAN HAIR LOSS

Afro hair is one of the world’s three principal hair types. Its natural colour is black with multiple helices with an oval configuration visible in a cross section of the hair shaft.

Those of African origin tend to be more susceptible to keloid scarring, central centrifugal cicatrical alopecia (hot comb alopecia), excessive use of hair relaxers (straightening/ straighteners), and to traction alopecia which often results in coin sized bald spots (hair loss where the hair follicles are permanently damaged from constant traction) due to tight braiding/ cornrows/ plaits/ dreadlocks/ weaves.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair replacement surgery is generally not suitable for afro hair as it is very difficult to perform with the risk of poor results.
